Is there a special way to start a journal, or do you just start one here?

LOL!!! Well, here goes!

My weight loss journey began 20 years ago...I had been overweight my entire childhood and teenage years and by the time I hit my senior year I was fed up. I went to one of those weight loss centers, counted calories (starting at 1800 and then eventually stopping at 1200) and lost 60 lbs.

College, marriage, 5 kids (the last two being TWINS), a couple of autoimmune diseases later....and I weigh more than I did back in high school. For the last 10 years I've been on and off every possible diet. The most recent "successful" one being Medifast, which included eating 800-1000 cals a day. It worked great for 8 months, I lost about 50 lbs....but it all came back, despite still trying to eat under 1000 cals a day.

So, here I am. I tried this once before but allowed the weight gain during the reset to scare me away. I started a week ago tomorrow, just trying to hit 1200 cals the first couple of days....It was SCARY! (My TDEE is 2600.) The next few days I ate at 1500, I still felt a little gross....but by yesterday I was feeling more comfortable with 1500 cals...and HUNGRY!!!

Today, I started the lifting program for beginners from the website, and by the time I'll have had my snack, I will have logged 1800 cals!!!

And guess what, today is the first day in over a year, maybe two, that I've had energy ALL DAY....without a PM coffee. Fatigue has been a major part of my life since my autoimmune diseases began....it's unusual for me to get through the day without some type of nap...some days I physically can't get out of bed until 11. Today, I've been busy AND had energy. Almost unheard of for me.

The only "negative" physical feeling is a burning in my stomach...wondering if that's from my body trying to adjust to more food.

I don't want to get ahead of myself...I know I have a loooong road ahead bc of 10 years of yo-yo dieting and 5 years of severely undereating, but I have hope. My 84 lbs will not come off overnight, or any time soon, but I'm working towards more than that. I want to FEEL better.

Yay! Eating more and lifting!

I don't have as long a history with low calorie eating as you do, but I can say that just nine months of it left me feeling terrible, with thinning hair and generally sick. I did my reset in April and now I'm stronger, happier, my hair is finally full and lustrous again, my nails are growing, I'm lifting heavier and heavier, and I'm recovering from injury so much better.

A friend who has also been eating at TDEE (she's a good body weight) mentioned that she finally starting reaching her daily nutrient goals by just eating, something she never did when eating at 1,200. I noticed the same thing. All those nutrients HAVE to make you feel better.

So, welcome! And take it from me, who had to be drug kicking and screaming into a reset, it's all worth it.

So glad you decided to start a journal and keep a log of your journey here. You won't be sorry you did, and it will be interesting to look back on it in a few months and see how far you have come. In fact, you have come so far already!

Awesome job starting the EM2WL Strength Training Program, and you are already seeing the benefits of eating more. As you can see, those benefits easily outweigh any minor fluctuations you may see on the scale. Getting your life and health back is so much more important!!

Can't wait for updates and to hear how you progress. We are all here to support and help you along the way ... we have a great bunch of people on here!

(and remember, if you have questions, just post them here in your Journal as we will all see it as a new post and be able to respond... By keeping it in the same thread, we can easily refer back to your original and subsequent posts to refresh on your history..)

Out of curiosity, is there a way I can change the title of this thread?

On another note...I'm ENJOYING eating.....the fear has decreased some (of course ask me again when I see the scale go up :/ ) AS recent as two weeks ago I commented that I hate food, hate trying to figure out what I can and can't eat etc...

After seeing how much energy I had yesterday, I had an idea....My husband has been SUPER fatigued for 6 months or so....He is about 25 lbs overweight. I entered his info into SCOOBY and i think he has been undereating by several hundred calories. (He has never counted cals, really, but I figured out what he's been eating and calculated it.) It would be AMAZING if he got his energy back. Even if he doesn't lose weight (he really doesn't even look like he needs to lose more than 10...he has a lot of muscle and just a little bit of a stomach), I know his life (and mine) would be better if he had more energy.

So happy you are seeing the positive benefits already. Hopefully your husband would join you! Good luck on that!
