Cardio days - ssgtwifey - 07-10-2012 02:12 PM

I am really struggling with what to do on my cardio days. I'm doing NROLFW and loving it! I always did Bootcamp style classes prior to that and loved it, but have been trying to follow this book and EM2WL and do this right.

I want to incorporate HIIT workouts. Does Bootcamp count? We do no weights or anything. Lots of burpees, ab work, high knees, etc. Lots of high intensity. Not much down time. So that wouldn't really be considered HIIT right?

Maybe running, C25k, etc?

If you love it, bootcamp now & again wouldn't hurt. wink

Maybe Hiit one day and Bootcamp another? How long is Bootcamp class? I'd pick the Bootcamp over C25k, lol. But that's just me tongue

You could do sprints for Hiit, if you want to run.

Bootcamp is an hour long class and burns so many calories. Maybe if I just threw them in there once in awhile it would be ok. I also thought about trying some of the early early morning workouts before my dh goes to work, because I much rather do cardio classes than cardio machines! Blek!

Sounds like you have a good plan. I hate cardio machines too...well, except for my spin bike tongue

If you love bootcamp, do it. I think it's important to do activities you love. Just know that you'll have to eat a lot on bootcamp days to make sure you net over BMR!

As for C25K, I personally don't think it counts as HIIT. My reasoning is this. In order to properly train to run, which is the goal of C25K, the heart rate should actually stay within 65 - 85% max. And really when starting out, closer to 65% is going to help build endurance for running faster. That being said, I love to run. If your goal is to be a runner, then go ahead and do C25K. But if you're looking at it as a HIIT option and not really interested in becoming a runner, personally I think there are better options for that kind of workout. So once again it's a matter of what's important to you.
