RE: Eat, Play, Write
Weird question...does anyone know whether cold meds (NyQuil, Theraflu) cause water retention? I'm wondering whether that could be why my weight shot up that past couple of days.

Yes, being sick can cause water retention. I didn't dig deep into the science, but everything I read mentioned water retention when you a have a cold or flu. Check this thread from BodyBuilding.com: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread...=142050781

Exclamation RE: Eat, Play, Write
You guys must think I'm a complete flake by now, but...after reading Tereza and Frosty's replies, I stuck with 2100 yesterday. This morning I'm back down to 148.6, which is what I was one week ago. So I've changed my mind (again!) and will continue at 2100 another week as planned. It must have been my cold and cold meds making me gain weight and puffiness - I don't feel so bloated this morning. Go figure.

Thank you all again for your kind patience and support.

(Why is there an exclamation by my sub line above?)

Lol, I have no clue where the exclamation came from, but it sure made it look like and important statement! Nope, you are not a flake wink
Good to hear you are feeling better.

The good thing is that the worst thing you though could happen (150) happened and honestly nothing happened. You survived and became stronger!
Cold meds, cold in itself, water retention, body needing to heal, got the scale going. It's all good. BTW, when you are sick or injured, do not cut. Many times you won't feel like eating and will end up having to push the food just to feel better. Stick with 2100, stay consistent. You are doing great!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Hey, that's great! No need to feel like a flake. We all tend to get nervous when we see bigger numbers on the scale. Give your body time to get used to the 2100 calories. Try to stick with it for 4-6 weeks and see what happens. There's nothing wrong with going back 50 - 100 calories to give your metabolism time to catch up to the calorie level. But you seem to be doing fine so far!

Mine went up to 149 the other day, and today I'm back down to 148! I guess our bodies will do what they want to do!

I say that all the time, Frosty...the body always wins. The body will ALWAYS get what it wants, one way or another. Even though we all want things to go according to OUR plans, lol!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
It's a rainy Sunday here, but I'm hoping to sneak a nice walk in between storms this afternoon.

I'm back up again this morning to 149.2. More important than the daily ups and downs, though, I've been trending steadily up re. Hacker's Diet & Happy Scale. Ugh. And, honestly, I feel heavier. This is hard. Going back to reread the Starter Kit to remind myself why....

Starting weight 11-21 - 144
Past 2 weeks
1-09 147.4
1-10 148.2
1-11 148.2
1-12 149
1-13 148-8
1-14 148.6
1-15 148.6
1-16 149.4
1-17 148.8
1-18 148.8
1-19 149.4
1-20 150
1-21 148.6
1-22 149.2

BMR - 1271
TDEE - 2081 (averaging Moderate & Strenuous)
Calorie average past week - 2111
Weight average past week - 149
Began 2100/day on 1-11
