RE: Mary Jo's Journal... Yo.
Sounds like a good lesson to learn.

I did find that weighing everything really helped me out. I ended up learning a lot about portion size which has helped me with my maintenance.

You have such a great attitude, Mary Jo! It really lifted my spirits to read about your patience and positive outlook in the midst of a cut. Good job!

RE: Mary Jo's Journal... Yo.
It's me again! I mean to post by time slips on by.

Thanks, Yankee... I have noticed weighing stuff is definitely working better than guessing/measuring cups. I think I'm start to see the weight dip but still feeling nourished and energetic. Woo hoo!

Kati, It's definitely a struggle to keep positive. At times, the progress seems to be no where and all my effort is for nothing. I realized after stressing out in October about work, life, weight, that I'm stacking the cards against my body. It's going to do what it wants to do. Even if I'm frustrated, it's not like I can give up on watching what I'm eating or exercising. That'll only make it worse. So I'm sitting back and enjoying the journey. I'm sure I'll be fed up another time as well as stressed, but this too shall pass. Just like the peaceful, positive moment I have right now. It too shall pass.

I'm focusing on not stressing and watching protein intake.

10/17/2015: 182.5 2040.4 (cut: wk 2)
10/24/2015: 183.0 2056.3 (cut: wk 3) T
10/31/2015: 183.6 -------- (cut: wk 4) - i didn't track cal, weight or workout
11/07/2015: 184.1 2127.7 (cut: wk 5)
11/14/2015: 182.9 2129.1 (cut: wk 6)

Feeling pretty good this week. My weight has started to be a bit lower than it has in the past few weeks on my daily weigh ins in the past week. TOM should be here in a few days which is why the average isn't as low as those weigh ins. So I'm thinking i'm starting to level out. Maybe even starting a downward trend. This next week will definitely be telling...

I'm having a hard time trying to stay at 2070 calories per day. I'm over by 50 calories in the weekly average for the past few days. It's interesting to see that I might be slowly changing at 2130 calories. I definitely feel stronger and doing great in my workouts. My waist line seems to be slightly smaller even when TOM is approaching. I'll be taking pictures at the end of this cut to see.

Now I'm debating staying at 10% (2070) deficit for the next week and see if the weight is starting to move or go to 15%.

Gut says to work at doing 10% which I'm leaning that I will do... prob for the rest of my 8 weeks, so 2 more weeks. Since I'm not hitting the 10% deficit exactly, working towards hitting that limit would be a good start. wink

I'll play it by ear after my break the first week of December.

RE: Mary Jo's Journal... Yo.
Fabulous update, and yay for downward trends! Yeah, I definitely would not increase your deficit to 15% at this point (since you are having results at 10%ish), but, like you said, simply try to make that 10%.

Your post is proof that staying consistent is key. For those first five weeks at cut you actually saw gains on the scale, but you stuck to the plan, concentrated on the positive changes you were seeing in your body and workouts, and now are reaping the rewards. Well done!

RE: Mary Jo's Journal... Yo.
Howdy all! I'm only going to put my cut weeks below. The list was getting too long and I have it in another post as well as my spreadsheet for reference anyways

First Cut Numbers: (weekly average btw)

10/11/2015: 182.8 2007.0 (cut: wk 1)
10/17/2015: 182.5 2040.4 (cut: wk 2)
10/24/2015: 183.0 2056.3 (cut: wk 3) T
10/31/2015: 183.6 -------- (cut: wk 4) - i didn't track cal, weight or workout
11/07/2015: 184.1 2127.7 (cut: wk 5)
11/14/2015: 182.9 2129.1 (cut: wk 6)
11/21/2015: 182.3 2017.0 (cut: wk 7) T

Amazing eh? I've seem to have lost almost 2 pounds in the last two weeks. I'm sure some of it is less water as I am having less sodium in my diet, but golly gee, amazing!

Yesterday and the day before I noticed that all week long that I've been in the low 182s. I looked back at my weeks and was thinking i was losing 0.5 lb a week which is great, but a little bummed thinking how long it would be to lose 30-40 lbs. BUT! I'm losing weight, I thought. Be happy for a downward trend.

THEN! This morning I realized I've actually lost 1.8 pounds!! That's almost a pound a week. Definitely weighing my food more closely has helped. Also staying under my 10% deficit helped too! Well, this week is more like 12%. Not that I was pushing to go under but I was working towards hitting 10%. My Friday night was only 1780 or so which is way under, but I'm sure I didn't calculate the pizza delivered correctly... it might have been higher.

Anyhoo... I'm excited that the weight is finally on a downward trend. I'm still working towards that 10% limit. I got one more week and then a TDEE break.

I'm wondering if, during my TDEE journey during the summer, was my calculations incorrect. I always guestimated my amounts of food. I *may* have a higher TDEE than I think (2300 currently). I'm going to do 2300 during my break and see what happens with my weight. If I still lose weight, I might try another break week at 2400. If not, I'll go back to my 10% cut for a second round.

BTW - if anyone has suggestions on a fitness tracker, let me know. I'm pondering on getting one.

RE: Mary Jo's Journal... Yo.
Another week gone.

First Cut Numbers: (weekly average btw)

10/11/2015: 182.8 2007.0 (cut: wk 1)
10/17/2015: 182.5 2040.4 (cut: wk 2)
10/24/2015: 183.0 2056.3 (cut: wk 3) T
10/31/2015: 183.6 -------- (cut: wk 4) - i didn't track cal, weight or workout
11/07/2015: 184.1 2127.7 (cut: wk 5)
11/14/2015: 182.9 2129.1 (cut: wk 6)
11/21/2015: 182.3 2017.0 (cut: wk 7) T
11/28/2015: 181.7 2225.4 (cut: wk 8)

By the looks of it, I lost at least a pound since the beginning but my downward tread from mid cut, it was 2.4 pounds. Hopefully it was a pound of fat with some muscle building in there, but who knows.

I started my diet break on Thanksgiving as I know I was going to go over my limit that day and then some. wink Next week is some good vacation time where I won't be able to track my weight nor accurately count my calories. Seemed like a good time for a diet break. big grin

I got a fitbit during this festive shopping days. A fitbit charge hr to be exact. It's interesting to see where my daily calories are. So far for one day, i've come to 2000 calories burned. I haven't exercised with it yet as I have been sick the past week. I'm going to try it today and see how well it does. The activity tracking it has done so far as told me I'm not moving enough. Too much sitting I think. This will definitely get me focused on sitting less during the day.

With my 1 pound lost for the cut, I wonder if I need more movement or go to 15%. Any guidance would be fab. I did go up a pound or so during the cut and so it settled down 2.4 from that high point, but I wonder if I should just try my next cut at 10% or go to 15%.
