Hello from SoCal :)
Hello fellow EM2WL peeps!

A little about me: I am 28 and a resident of SoCal's Central Valley. As a teen, I had severe eating disorders for which I was hospitalized. After that I had a couple of relapses in college, but recovered enough to function.

I was super lean (read: unhealthily skinny) until about three years ago when I got snagged into a toxic relationship that piled on the pounds from stress, lack of access to healthy foods, and no time for the gym.

After I got safely free from that situation, I was depressed and anxious and put on even more weight. Wanting to lose weight as a way to symbolically shed the abuse, I started exercising a lot - think 6 hours of intense cardio and 6 hours of weight lifting, plus some yoga, and severely restricted my calories to around 1200-1300 a day.

I am 5'0 so I thought that would work. Nope. Nothing. All it did was start me on a binge/restrict cycle that I still struggle with.

Then I found EM2WL, and damn, I want to eat food! happy
Given my history I decided on a full metabolism reset, with an ultimate goal of body recomposition toward lean mass increase.

Thanks for creating such a wonderful space where we, especially us ladies, can shake off the toxic diet culture's messages to starve ourselves for an unobtainable aesthetic. I'm looking forward to my journey back to health.

RE: Hello from SoCal :)
Thanks for the warm welcome! I am excited to start this journey, and knowing I'm not along makes it that much easier. I've traditionally tried to go it by myself, but that didn't work out so well, haha. big grin

Thanks for letting me know about the personal journals! I will look into that; I think a way to record my progress with words will help me get out of my head and process things.

Thanks again!

RE: Hello from SoCal :)
Thanks Candi! I am glad to have stumbled across such a great place, where people encourage each other to eat healthy amounts of food instead of "helping" each other subsist on starvation rations.

Looking forward to my journey. Best of luck on yours. happy

RE: Hello from SoCal :)
I've only been active in the forums for maybe a day or so, and this is an awesome bunch of people. You guys are great! big grin Knowing I'm not the only one doing this metabolic reset and eating more and not killing myself with exercise makes it feel less fringe, if that makes sense at all. I hear others bemoaning the amount of carbs in a piece of toast or saying they can't eat dinner because they had a cupcake, and I just want to give them a little card with this website on it. tongue

RE: Hello from SoCal :)
Hi Rebekah,

Ugh, people drive me nuts when they say things like that! Even before em2wl. So you ate a cupcake and its not worth going over calories or whatever to eat a nutritious, balanced meal that will actually hold you over until morning. Plus, the chances of snacking on more junk goes way up.

Sorry for typos- on mobile!

RE: Hello from SoCal :)
I just had a delicious bagel for brunch for the first time in while...so yummy. My brain is kind of freaking out because it's a rest day for me, but I am doing well. I can't imagine living without whole grains...or treats. I am glad to have found a place where people agree with that sentiment. happy
