Eat, Play, Write

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I have the mid-week early-cut blues. I'm eating 1680-1720, drinking plenty of water, macros on target, and walking an hour a day plus other activities, and Sun-today I'm weighing in at 151.2, so up since I lowered calories. I would really really like to understand the science of this, because every calculator I've looked at says I'm losing slowly with this small cut. I've been consistently eating 1800-2100 since last Dec., and my weight has leveled off at 151-152 since July. I understand that this is "normal," but does anyone have any reference material that explains why? I only want to lose 10 pounds!

Starting weight in Nov. - ~145
Calorie range 1/10-4/7 = 2011-2308
Average weights 1/10-4/21 = 148.9-156.8
Chill through May & June -- no weigh-ins, ate what I pleased
Date - Sun. weight - ave. calories prev. week
7/2 - 153.6 - 1930
7/9 - 153.6 - 1820
7/16 - 152 - 1780
7/23 - 152.6 - 1803
7/30 - 151.8 - 1853
8/6 - 151.4 - 1745
8/13 - 152 - 1847
8/20 - 150 - 1851
8/27 - 150.8 - 1981
9/3 - 151.8 - 1831
9/10 - 151.4 - 1830
9/17 - 151.2 - 1948
9/24 - 153.2 - 1997
9/30 - 150.8 - 1680

Estimated TDEE -- ~1850

What are your measurement saying? Sometimes weight doesn't budge but you see a reduction in inches. We're just so conditioned to see lbs dropped = good i'm doing something right, heading in the right direction! But inches lost, weight remaining the same or increasing is also a brilliant sign that you are doing something right.

Quite right, but nope, no change. My waist has actually increased an inch since Nov. and has not gone back down. Pants tight that fit me this time last year.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Hello, friends! Finally, some progress! Down a little. Even better, on Friday a FB friend came through town with her dogs (one of them was on the cover of my first mystery, and another inspired a scene in one of the later books, so I've wanted to meet them for ages). My hubby took photos, and I noticed that my pants looked baggy, esp. the belly. I had to buy this pair last May bec. my others were too tight. Anyway, I tried on the old ones and THEY FIT! So the bigger ones are in the laundry and then off to St. Vincent's donation bin. Tried on a couple other pair that have been too tight all summer, and they're all fine again. Yay! I plan to stick to this cut another week or two, then reassess. Four weeks max, then back to (revised) TDEE estimate. Then we'll see.

Ate breakfast out this morning - French toast with butter & syrup, scrambled eggs, crisp bacon. Drinking lots of water. Walking to the mall in a bit to get my hair cut, and backpacking to Starbucks later to write for a few hours.

Good to see th8ng moving along! But actually, what ?I liked most was when you mentioned that you will stick to it for 4 weeks only and then you will evaluate it. No more endless dieting until you reach a certain number or fit into a certain pair of pants!

And yes for breakfast with all the good stuff!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Good morning! Week three of my cut complete, down a pound, so .33 pound per week (down 4 lb since early July). I'm going to do one more week of the cut, then eat at estimated TDEE for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I'm having trouble estimating TDEE because my exercise is really erratic these days with cold rain here. I'm looking at a gym, but planning a trip in a couple of weeks so want to wait until I'm back. Anyway, I don't know whether to recalculate at a lower activity level or not. The fact that I'm losing a bit suggests not, but I don't know whether that will hold. I checked in with MFP's goal calculator and it sets me lower than EM2WL, even for maintenance. Any thoughts? I'd say I have another month of less-than-normal exercise coming (won't get much while I travel - I'll be on trains for a week or more :-) ).

This forum is much quieter than it use to be - has everyone moved to FB?

Have a great week, everyone!

Hey Sheila!

If is it working, Id stick with it for now. Don’t go lower, mfp calculator does not add you activity and you have to add manually.
Stick to your plan, you the TDEE that you are basing your cut on.

I hope not. I like it here, it's easier for me to keep track of everyones journey. I struggle with the fb layout.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
We are here and not going anywhere wink. FB is fine, just different. It’s easier for some folks who already use FB frequently, but here it feels quieter and more intimate in a way. Feels safer, right? But no, we are not migrating and this forum should always be here. What happens is that when we have a workshop or any events, there’s more action in other platforms, just because it easer to share videos and other material.
