Figuring out values for homemade recipes
I made a pot of beef barley soup over the weekend. Yummy! I don't follow recipes per say. How do I figure out the nutritional value?

RE: Figuring out values for homemade recipes
You can create a new recipe on MFP. Add each ingredient that you used (from memory if you don't use a recipe) and specify the amount of serves and it does the rest for you. If I'm making something without a recipe I tend to write down what I'm using, how much etc as I go. Seems insanely OCD but there's no other way to track it...

RE: Figuring out values for homemade recipes
Loretta - do you use a program such as My Fitness Pal, Sparkpeople, etc...I know there's other ones - can't think of them off of the top of my head. These programs allow you to input the foods that you've eaten and tracks calories. Usually there's a feature for recipes. It's called different names depending on the program used. You can enter the ingredients and the number of serving sizes and the recipe calculator will figure out the per serving nutritional values of your recipe!
