Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
I think the best way to keep me on the straight and narrow is to talk about how I am doing and fess up any errors etc - and as no one round me would even dare eat more - I am posting it online (that in itself makes me scared!)

So in true AA style - Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more happy

So some history - always very active as a child and slim - was a competitive swimmer - but stupidly all came to a stop around the age of 14 and yep I didn't know any better I ate the same but with no exercise or rather nowhere near what I was doing! So weight started to creep up and I started to notice - but honestly I was no where near fat! not compared to today!

I got slapped around by a dr or two who at that point told me I was fat - I reckoned I weighed around 9.5st!! at 5'4" yeah so not true - but at the age of 17 your confidence isn't great so I struggled

uni came and went added a few more pounds - but rowed and was highly active again but still just couldn't shift it - but hey its uni!

then first job and I was termed "squishy" - so not majorily overweight but wobbly fat - this is when I started the WW route, then cambridge then all sorts of other things - still did exercise but it was not anywhere near as fierce as it once was as life got in the way

roll forward now 41 eek and heaviest I have ever been and certainly the last 8 years mainly I have battled really hard against it and found I was just getting bigger and bigger and I couldn't understand it - I did more exercise than anyone I know - and also put 110% into it too! but still weight piled on! I was that person in the front of the class asking for harder weights more reps to the groans of everyone else!

I couldn't understand it - nor did anyone else but any time I tried to change it was drop cals increase exercise - I would burn 600/700cals per session and eat 1200 - yeah and would stall any weight loss - get disheartened and all pile + more back on!

I was told I was insulin resistance - but I didn't really know what it meant and so didn't know that I should have done something different then

you know the theory - if you do as you always did you will get what you always got! - so me so true sadly

then after another round of cambridge and hair falling out feeling really awful and having some nasty side effects, I tried 5:2 fasting - which helped for a bit - but again as soon as I tried to stop weight piled back on - I called it my elastic band weight!

Then Feb of this year when I turned 41 I realised that I had failed to be thin and 40 which was really depressing and it was effecting everything I did - clothes didn't fit, life was tough as I just felt fat!

then came across the TDEE and BMR approach on MFP it was like a light bulb moment - it made so much sense!! After I got over being well and truly annoyed at how much life I had wasted not knowing this earlier! I decide to give it a go in March 2014

So roll on to now - I have been resetting - currently eating 2000 ish per day and weight being +/- around 8lbs - not happy about that especially because it seems to be all round my middle!!

My TDEE I reckon is about 2500 so this week trying to push it even higher - which is tough going but I am determined to conquer this once and for damn all!

I decided that I would push myself this year and signed up for a race for life - a 5k run -in the mud!! for cancer charity - end of may - so not long to go now

Again falling into that trap of cardio cardio cardio!! But hey ho its done now I cam work on more weights afterwards I reckon - just not looking forward to pictures of me fat and muddy!! was hoping to have lost some by then Sad

So hopefully I can use this thread just to keep myself on track and see how I go

Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more... and I will be a success and weigh less this year too!

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
Well done putting that down in writing! Please know that we are here to help you when you need a shoulder to lean on...

Sounds like you are well on your way to healing your metabolism. Major win upping your calories to 2,000! I know you said you had initially put on +/- 8 pounds, but are you pretty much holding stable at this point (minus the totally normal monthly fluctuations...)?

Remember, coming from such a long history of disordered eating, it may take your metabolism a while to really get stabilized at these higher levels, but it sounds like you are well on your way! Keep up the awesome work. And, yes, try to keep out of that trap of increasing the cardio to burn off the increased calorie intake --- that will result in you still, in effect, under eating (but it sounds like you have already realized that for yourself. Well done!)

Keep up the awesome work!

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
Thank you happy

Hmm as for holding steady apart from normal monthly fluctuations - I have been weighing regularly but not always tracking - so I need to ensure I do both for at least 2 weeks/1 month - cos when I did that weight dropped - stopped logging and weight jumped up (which is the usual...) so actually not sure I am stable yet - damn lol

However I think a good test will be this week eating up from 2000 to 2500 - if I gain a large amount then I still need more resetting - if its the usual +/-1/2lbs then I reckon stable is it - only time will tell

Have to say though tummy rumbling already at 12noon so its working as I am hungry when I should be - even eating 2500! shocker how I survived on 800 - well I guess I didn't really happy

Test & measure is the order of the day or week happy

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
Remember that jumping from 2,000 to 2,500 might result in quite a jump on the scale at first... That's a pretty big jump. Once you get right around your TDEE you may have to make more subtle changes in your intake to ensure you are not over your Maintenance level.

The good thing is that you seem to be okay with the scale jumping around (at least at *this* point) and are prepared to be in this for the long haul. You are going to do awesome!

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
so not a bad weekend - throughly enjoyed eating more this weekend - I really thought that I would struggle to eat 2500 well in fact I was a tad over on saturday! I did recheck some of my numbers - weighing food wise - and had to make some adjustments so I think I was eating more than I thought anyways hence I don't think 2500 will be too much of a jump up

struggled a lot with sleep this weekend - not sure why but I will keep an eye on protein as I am aware more protein = better sleep

am interested to see what wednesday weigh day brings as I cannot wait to trust that my reset is over so I can start cutting

yes I am inpatient - however with the race at end of may I really hate my picture being taken so this as a way to push me to lose weight - annoying found out about EM2WL afterwards!!! so been resetting since I started training so the weight has gone up not down! 6 weeks to go though

on the up side I do believe that my biceps have started to show some definition - ok its not something anyone else can see but I can plus I am sure my butt is lifted a tad - shame the belly and above is bigger!! trying to figure out how to get another weights session in per week at the mo as I know that is really helping

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
oh just remembered what I wanted to type - was starving over week especially Saturday/Sunday earlier am - wasn't sleeping and my tummy was grumbling away like crazy I have eaten 2600 the day before so it just seems so odd - any ideas as to why? I am seeing it as a good sign that my body is using these new cals I am giving it- in a good way and its all going towards a good reset - however am I talking complete twaddle?

RE: Hi my name is Sarah and I eat more!
Sounds like you are doing great! When many start their reset they feel overly stuffed and bloated, but then with time, start feeling hungry again. A great sign that your metabolism is speeding up!

Make sure you don't rush the reset - I fully believe that this is the most important part of the whole process.... The purpose of the reset is to give your body a break from the stress of dieting and to get it used to eating an appropriate amount of food. The length of time required for a successful reset will depend greatly on the length and severity of restrictive dieting.. It is so important during this time that you trust the process and are willing to stick it out as long as it takes. So within that 8 - 12 week time frame, how will you know when your reset is complete? Generally, if you are in a rush to get it over with so you can go back to dieting or begin your cut, that is probably a good sign you’re not quite there yet. Make sure you don't rush this portion, or you will just find yourself right back here to give it even more time. This is just as much a mental process as a physical one...

caution duly noted big grin thank you and yes I did promise myself that I would give it a year to lose weight + reset - which in the scheme of things isn't a great deal of time - just will hide from any promotion pictures from the race at the end of May I think!
