Shocked New Motivated Questions
Hello new Friends!
I am 52, been non dieting since the fall, and I am ready to move forward slowly but surely. As a former college jock I love the idea of weight lifting, eating protein etc. I have ordered a Body Media Band, and am reading New rules of weight lifting for women.

Current numbers(after not being on the scale for 6 months)
5 5". 185 lbs
Using MFP
For 2 weeks I have been eating around 2000 calories, having stopped WW last summer and gone back to 185 from 170. 185 is a VERY consistent 'set point' weight for about 10 years....I always end up there.
Current big questions:

How long before my body media gives me a good number....do I need to wear it for a week? 2 weeks?
Metabolism reset?
Alcohol. None? Some?
Biggest Vice: fountain diet Dr Pepper. It is my crack. What to do?not talking
Any info will be appreciated!!

Amy
Ready and very willing

RE: New Motivated Questions
Hi and welcome Amy

Body media - most people I believe start with a months worth of data and go from there (but I don't use one so someone else will have a better idea I am sure)
The longer the reset the better - I did 12weeks - but to be honest it more mental really - so eat your way to TDEE and stay there for as long as you can - you will know when you are ready happy if you try to cut too soon then you might need to reset again. Most people find the first 4 or so weeks the hardest - then they get the high of eating more and then they worry about cutting and then they cut when they decide they want too - you will find that the days when you cannot wait to cut - are not the days to cut big grin
Alcohol - up to you this is a eat for life - so I would include it as per normal and count it cals wise
Dr Pepper - up to you - I only drink water so I am no good big grin but if you can cut down that would be great - you want your macros to be 40/30/30 carbs/fat/protein - so if there is too much from booze and dr pepper you might find you have to move things around some - play with it and see

either way great to have you here happy

Sarah

RE: New Motivated Questions
Welcome!!! So glad to have you here! Yay for loving protein and weight lifting - that will get you off on the right foot!

First off, it sounds like you have not been on a diet since last fall -- if that is the case, a reset is probably not necessary. A reset is intended for those who have been eating at a steep deficit for a prolonged period of time as a way to get the metabolism revved back up and running where it should be.

Great job getting the Body Media --- this will help to take a lot of the guess work out of figuring out your energy expenditure. Your band will "get to know you" as you wear it more and more. What I did when I first got mine was to wear it for a week and then take an average of the TDEE totals and work off of that number. Once I got to two weeks, I recalculated and worked off of the two week average. I repeated the third and fourth weeks. Once I got to that point, I just worked off of the most current monthly average. Have you figured out your TDEE on Scooby or another on-line calculator so you will have some estimate of what your burn is? I generally found my BMF to be within about 100 to 150 calories of Scooby's estimate.

As far as the alcohol and soda - that is totally up to you and is a life choice. Since you will be concentrating on your health, you might decide to limit these items. Like Sarah said, if you drink too much alcohol you might have difficulty hitting your macros. Also, we know soda is not the healthiest of items, but with EM2WL, nothing is considered "off limits" --- it is all about living and enjoying life, and making the healthy lifestyle fit in. Maybe limit alcohol to once a week or the weekends. If you want to cut back on the soda, maybe just start out by cutting back or find a suitable substitute. Personally, when I really want something fizzy, I will have a club soda with a bunch of limes or lemons squeezed in.

Again, so happy to have you here! Can't wait to hear about your progress - keep us updated, and please know that we are here to support you along the way!
