Upper Back injury - How best to deal
Hi!

I am loving lifting (don't we all say that?), but got a little cocky when I first began deadlifts and now my upper back is out of whack. The muscles between my shoulder blades are tight and have hurt like the dickens for over a week. I finally got smart and stopped most of my upper body work. It's a tad better, but I'm wondering how long this will last.

Have any of you dealt with this type of injury? If so, how long, any suggestions on how best to help it heal (stretching doesn't seem to help at all), etc?

Thanks!

Are you following an exercise program from your gym instructor?

RE: Upper Back injury - How best to deal
Your back is definitely something you don't want to mess around with... It sounds like your form may have been off, or like you said that you just rushed it and upped your weights too quickly. Definitely do not push it and wait until you are pain-free before starting again --- you may even have to see a doctor or chiropractor if the pain persists.

If you are just starting out, I would recommend at least a few sessions with a personal trainer, just to make sure your form is good to avoid further injury.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!
