Activity Correct? I'm new!
Hi! I want to be sure I am figuring my daily activity correctly.
My stats are:
BMR: 1296
TDEE: 2236 (moderate level)
TDEE - 15%: 1901

My workouts: 5 or 6 days of Daily Burn exercises (cardio sculpt/strength program)
Run 2-3 days per week (training for a half marathon - only up to 6 miles in my training on long days and around 3 miles on the other runs)

Most days my daily burn workouts are only around 200 calories burned. I use a HR monitor when I workout.

My question - There is more than 500 calories difference between my BMR and TDEE and my workouts are generally not that large of calories burned. Should I choose a lower level? Also, I should mention that I have a desk job too.

Thanks!!

Hi!

I'm not really familiar with those workouts so I can be sure. In any case you seem fairly active out of job, so I'd try those numbers and see how it works for you. Tdee is your workouts but not only that so don't worry if there's a discrepancy between your energy expenditure on a workout and the total tdee.

RE: Activity Correct? I'm new!
Thanks! I have another question. The strength workouts (Daily Burn created by Bob Harper) I do are all free weights. For the most part I recently upped my weights to 10 lb from 8 lb. In most cases I am using heavier weights than those in the videos. Is this enough strength training, or do I really need a weight room? I really like the convenience of my home workouts and I have notice that my arms are getting more toned and my butt is lifting. They also do a lot of squats and lunges too.

RE: Activity Correct? I'm new!
That's a funny question. Well strength training is anything that involves some kind of resistance. Weight training is obvious. I do bodyweight training which also is strength training. The only requirement to keep improving, get more muscles and stronger overall is to increase the resistance or the difficulty of the exercise. So basically if those 10Lbs are getting easier you should increase the weight. Unless it's really hard you should be able to increase weights every week I think.

Anyway if you maintain that weight you'll just maintain same muscles and same strength.

Thanks for the response. Sorry for the funny question. It's just really hard to wrap my head around eating so many calories than I'm used to so I feel like I should be working out harder than I am currently.

If you feel it's too easy then you should definitely increase the weights :> Most bodyweight exercises I'm doing the last reps are almost failure or at least I gotta rest a few seconds before the last reps. On the long run it doesn't seem as tiring as a cardio exercise, but you should be able to feel the burn on your muscles while you do it.

RE: Activity Correct? I'm new!
First of all, welcome!! So happy you have found us!

It sounds like you are pretty active and definitely at least at the Moderate level (certainly not any lower). Just remember, when you figure out your TDEE, your exercise activity is already figured into that figure, so there is really no reason to continue to calculate the burns for each and every workout. Just use that 15% cut figure as your target each and every day (or whatever your target is based on your current goals). If you happen to have a day where you exercise a lot more than normal you can always eat a couple hundred extra calories to compensate, but all in all it should balance out over time.

Thanks!! I really appreciate your responses. I really feel like this time is my time. No more starving for me! At first that many calories was hard to get in, but now it's much easier. Excited for my first cut!
