Sad im in my 3rd week and gained 13 pounds starting to freak out
I started eating my maintenance on May 23rd...The second week it looked like my weight had stabilized but I just ed gained another 4 pounds in the last couple days..im really scared I don't want to gain too much and I don't want to quit now or it will all be for nothing..how much did you guys gain?

Give us a bit more history. You said you started eating at maintenance three weeks ago, but what was your diet history prior to the increase? Did you increase your calories slowly or just jump right up there? Give us a bit more info and we will be happy to help you through the process...

I have been dieting as long as I can remember..and I am 37 I would say 20 years and I have eaten very low calorie around 1200 calories most days with occasional binges ..3 years ago I did the hcg diet which is 500 calories a day and lost 120 pounds that way then my mom died in 2015 and I lost it..I have gained back 20 pounds..I ate only meat and vegetables nothing processed and 1200 calories for a month and only lost 6 pounds but I can't stick with it so I binge by going out to eat a couple days in a row and gain it back..I just don't want to have to eat so low calorie I'm tired all the time..I upped my calories all at once

If you upped your calories all at once after a life time of restrictive dieting, you can definitely expect some weight gain. Years of dieting can lead to a suppressed metabolism. If you were previously eating 1,200 calories and maintaining at that level (or even gaining), then your metabolism has most likely been suppressed down to that level. Now that you are eating more, you are technically eating more than your *suppressed* TDEE, so some weight gain is to be expected. Some of that will be water weight as glycogen stores are refilled, but some of it will be fat as the body will now be storing some of those extra calories in case another low cal diet is right around the corner.

If you haven't read it already, I would strongly recommend that you take a look at our Metabolism Reset Guide. Here, the whole process is laid out and described in detail. I think that you might find that it answers a lot of your questions, and it will let you know what to expect throughout the process (rather than me re-typing the whole thing here laughing )
