Gain on cut after lifting heavy?
I know you ladies will have some insight here! Since I stopped my reset in May (and started it in Feb) I've been making big strides with lifting though it's mostly machines at the gym. I feel like too much a noob still to take on the barbells but I'm getting closer! I go about 2 days a week and toddler-wrangle the rest of the time. Ok, sometimes I wrangle my 5 year old too...

I am still cutting at about a 10-15% deficit and I'd like to even go to 20% as I have ALOT to lose (about 100 pounds or 3-4 sizes).

Right now, I lift heavy for about 4-6 weeks then switch to lifting as much as I can at a higher rep, prolly around 50%. I'm notcing some changes in my body though more in how strong I am, which is awesome. big grin I feel like I'm getting smaller, or just *different* but the scale and measuring tape aren't showing much if any. Today I step on the scale and see a 5 pound gain. I am just coming off a heavy lifting session (this is prolly why right?) and stepping up cardio now. I sadly am not doing so well with tracking what I eat and I know I need to tighten that up but I don't think I'm really going OVER probably under. Would this cause the gain?

It's so weird to be the overweight gal who doesn't over eat... let me tell you. rolling on the floor

Happy Friday!

RE: Gain on cut after lifting heavy?
Water, water, water. Fast gains (and losses) are always water, not fat. No reason to be concerned at all, as it can be caused by a variety of factors: DOMS and water retention after a lifting session can easily add 4 - 5 pounds. Water retention after a higher than normal sodium intake day. Hormonal fluctuations throughout the month. Stress and related cortisol levels. All of these things can account for that fast water weight gain. Give it a couple of days and it will be gone before you know it!
