Newbie with a few questions
Hello,
My name is Terri- I found this site a few weeks ago. I am 52 and have been yo yo dieting since my 30's. The last few years I seem to gain and lose the same 10 pounds.
I have a few questions:
I have an UP2 tracker- if I use the calories burned on that for my TDEE- do I just take a weekly average and eat that every day or should I change daily?
I haven't been "dieting" for the last month- is it still a good idea to do a metabolic reset due to my history?
Thanks- I am looking forward to trying this.

RE: Newbie with a few questions
Welcome! So glad you decided to join us!

As far as the tracker, yep just use that to get your weekly and then monthly TDEE averages and work off of that number. Some people actually adjust what they eat each day based on their on-body device, but personally I just prefer to keep it simple and have the same goal each day. For me, it's just easier that way (and I'm all about keeping things simple!) One thing to remember if you do elect to change your intake according to your UP2 ... remember that if your calorie goal changes your macro goals will change as well, and that's a little harder to track/change on the fly laughing

The way you will determine which direction you will go intake-wise will depend on what you were doing prior to this past month. Were you "dieting"? If your yo-yo dieting history led right up until about a month ago, then you might want to consider starting out with a reset. Now if you have been eating at or over your TDEE for the past month, then you can go ahead and count that as your first 4 weeks of reset complete and just continue at TDEE for another 4 - 8 weeks (again, depending on how recent and severe that yo-yo dieting has been...)

Get back to us with those answers and we will be happy to make sure you get started on the right foot, and again, welcome!!

RE: Newbie with a few questions
Thanks for the info-
I averaged out my weekly UP calories and I am coming up with a TDEE of 2167. So I am going to set my calorie goal on MFP to 2167. So it is okay to adjust it weekly?- seems to overwhelming to change it daily.
I have been doing some very low calorie diets in the past 6 months - so I think I will start with a reset.

RE: Newbie with a few questions
If you are just starting to use your UP and have gotten the first week's data, then yes go ahead and use that - set your MFP goal to that number. Then once you have two week's worth of data you can take that average and use it. Do the same thing at 3 weeks, and then once you have one month's worth of data just go on your monthly average. You may have some high days and some low ones, but that's just the point of using the averages --- it all evens out over time. And yes, for me changing goals on a daily basis is overwhelming and a real pain. I prefer the "set it and forget it" method laughing

Yes, if you had been doing low-cal diets in your recent past, then definitely start with the reset. It will give your metabolism a good "base-line".

Can't wait to heat how you progress...
