Tongue Jc/saranharm's em2wl journal
I'm doing a metabolism reset.

Here is my dieting history:
Binge during pregnancy, workout hard and eat less when nursing and afterwards. Had baby #3 in 2012 had gained 70 pounds. Tried low carb on and off for about a year? Often low cal but on and off. Joined a gym in 2014, started by lifting eventually went to more of a circuit style with cardio. Had periods of eating at 1200 calories but couldn't sustain (duh). Even tried the petite advantage diet (summer 2013?) In the past year, i continued with circuits & cardio- tried advocare this summer (2015). Hiked a lot this fall (eating around 1400). Then in oct i went to 1200 cals with intermittant fasting and no exercise at all. The. i came to em2wl:

Over thanksgiving (2015) I ripped the bandaid off. Which was me basically eating without caring. I tracked what I was eating without changing it and was about 2250 calories. I continued at that number until now (tdee is about 2300-2500).

My stats: 29 y/o woman, 5'4", start weight: 155 pounds
Stay at home/homeschooling mom to 3 sons. I lift (using kiki's plans) 4 days a week.

Nov 28- 159 lbs
Dec 7- 160.2
Dec 14- 162.2
Dec 21- 162
Dec 28- 164.6 (unofficial weigh in on sun, after bridal shower and not tracking my official weigh in day on monday i was 165.6)
Jan 4- 164.4

I'm okay with a body recomp and losing inches but I would like to find the right numbers and hopefully before summer where we soend a lot more time outside playing sports i have taken before photos and measurements. When I am done with "surge" i will take new ones (end of this week!)

RE: Jc/saranharm's em2wl journal
Jan 6: I've been eating 2260ish for 6 weeks now and lifting 4 days a week (currently on SURGE which is an EM2WL endurance program. Starting the hypertrophy program: evolve Monday!)

My weight is 164.4, which is up 9.6 pounds.

My measurements are basically the same but up 1/2 in the bust, arm, thigh, and 1 inch in the waist.

The only changes i see in my pictures is a bigger upper abdomen. It looks more like my pics that i took in july before I started low calorie again. I'm slightly disappointed right now. I wasn't expecting weight loss but I was hoping for some changing in the measuring tape. I do have 1 pair of pants that fit looser happy

I think 6 weeks is just not enough time and i am not even to the offical reset phase (still finding that tdee), but i'm sure maybe can understand the disappointment that their body continually brings year after year.

I will be using happy scale from here on out and will post updates and data. Hope to find my tdee soon so i can get that reset going!

Hi! Just read your post. Don't be discouraged. It takes time for your body to figure out what you're doing and respond. Weight loss/changes are also slower with lifting, but sooo much better (at least I think so). Just settle in and enjoy the ride. There's nothing like the feeling of increasing the weight your lifting week after week. It makes you such a bad ass!

RE: Jc/saranharm's em2wl journal
Thank you tip and anitra! I haven't figured out how to quote yet.

Okay, not going to stress about it happy

I do like feeling like a badass! I've enjoyed doing surge but i am most looking forward to starting evolve monday. I enjoy doin the compound lifts heavy with just a few reps. Switching it up is hard but i will do it because it is important!

Started using happy scale this morning. I was expecting to be way up because 1) my fingers were really swollen, 2) i haven't slept well in 3 nights, 3) i lifted yesterday, and 4) my period started yesterday. I was the same weight (164)- so thats a good thing, i think.

Sorry for typos- on mobile!

During the reset phase definitely don't expect to see weight loss happening. During this phase you should concentrating on increasing intake to TDEE, eating at TDEE for an extended period of time, getting the metabolism back up and running where it should be, and strength training. Some rare, very lucky people actually see weight loss as they increase their intake, but they are few and far between.

What should be happening (behind the scenes) is that if you are truly eating at TDEE and strength training you should be getting some muscle growth happening. Some fat could be being added as well if your metabolism is still suppressed, but as it gets fired back up that should become less and less. Once you get through the reset and begin your cut cycles, then you can start to expect to see some changes.

Great job on the strength training - I'm with you I like the lower rep periods. Endurance is for the birds laughing

How do you like the Happy Scale app?

I wasn't expecting weight loss but i was hoping for some inch loss or change in photos. I do feel stronger and i swear my baby bicep is a tiny bit bumpier. I was hoping to see some of that but I do think i need more time. I'm going to wait longer than 6 weeks for the next measurement and photos because it was very discouraging. Maybe every 12 weeks.

RE: Jc/saranharm's em2wl journal
In the Happy Scale app, you can even go back and retroactively add weights in, if you have them available...

During the reset phase most of the positive changes are going on inside and won't be visible to you. You are working on healing your metabolism and getting it used to running back up where it should be. You are strength training and hopefully building some muscle and strength. The positive changes will become visible to you once your metabolism is churning along at a good rate and you are actually "maintaining at maintenance". Remember if your metabolism is still suppressed, you may be potentially still over you "actual/suppressed" metabolic rate.

Hang in there and give the reset the time it needs, and when you are ready to cut you will be able to drop some of the fat that may have accumulated as you worked through this process...

Thanks for reading my journal. I hope it was helpful. This process is all about patience and persistence. But the support here is amazing!

Keep eating and allow that metabolism to completely reset. It's worth it, I promise!

RE: Jc/saranharm's em2wl journal
During a reset, you aren't going for outward physiological changes but for the metabolism change. The real results will come after the reset when you can eat a good amount of calories while losing weight. While doing the reset, your workouts will be important - while eating at TDEE, you may be able to gain a bit of muscle mass, which is fabulous. Then doing the small deficit, you'll be able to keep more of that muscle than you would before - and by losing fat, you'll see more of the muscle.

This is so worth it. Keep it up!
