At my wits end don't know what to do :(
I posted on a different thread a month or so ago, but am really struggling for some guidance. My story in a nutshell is.. was maintaining on 2500 calories (light-moderately active) for a good month or two back in October. I cut my calories to 200-2100 while starting a more active job and gained 5lbs. My periods have always been irregular and now I've gotten my first one after about a year... However, my doctor does not want me having a period at 20 because of side effects + severe endometriosis that effects my everyday life (basically I'm throwing up from both ends and in extreme pain for the whole time). I was around 2300 Amorites and my weight was stabilized to some point but not down from the 5lbs I had randomly gained. With my period I'm up another pound and a half and my doctor and gyno suggested I loose 2-4lbs in order to not get my period. To be honest, I do have some eating disorder tendensies caused by stress and am really unhappy with my overall apperence after gaining the 5lbs (I'm only 5'3 and very petite). My immediate thought is to go down to around 1700 calories with 60-75 minutes of elliptical a day in hopes of loosing but I feel like once I loose the weight I will gain it back by increasing...
I literally have no clue what to do, I just wanna loose the weight that I somehow gained from LOWERING my calories and feel better Sad
Thanks to anyone who's read this entire thing.

RE: At my wits end don't know what to do :(
First of all, I am very surprised to read that your doctor is suggesting that you under-eat in order to lose your period? Sorry, but that makes ZERO sense to me. There are plenty of other ways to manage the pain and the endometriosis without having to rely on under-eating to stop your periods. I am certainly not a doctor, but that seems not right...

I have responded to your other thread, and will reiterate what I said before here... First of all, you are looking for a "quick fix" and that is simply not going to happen. You know you could maintain at 2500 calories, so why would you even consider dropping down to 1700 and increasing tons of cardio which will do nothing more that increase your TDEE, making that 1700 deficit even steeper. That is a sure way to slow your metabolism down. You want to stay away from feeling like you need to exercise more simply because you are eating more. Yes, if you drop your intake to 1700 you will lose initially, but what are you going to do when you hit a plateau? Eat less? Not a good option

Like I have told you before, I would suggest cutting back on all of that cardio. Limit your cardio to 2 HIIT workouts a week lasting no more than 20 minutes and look into some strength training. You are young and now would be a great time to try to build some muscle so that you are not fighting that fight when you are much older. Also, I recommended trying to relax and just stay eating consistently at 2100. If you change too many things all at the same time, you will never know what is working and what is not.

I know you are very small framed, but even so that 5# is still a very small gain. I know you feel that gain more than a larger person, but still it is not the end of the earth. Once you get your metabolism sped back up where it should be, *then* you can think about a future plan, but for today just concentrate on relaxing and being patient.

In the meantime, will you do me a favor? Will you read this blog post and watch the video?

You just need to be consistent and don't let the stress get to you. Stress-related weight gain is a very real thing!!

I would seriously find another doctor. I have never, ever heard someone being told to basically adopt an anorexic lifestyle to accommodate an illness.

Have you heard of an IUD? The Mirena has almost zero hormones and basically eliminates periods. It might help to have one inserted. Look into one, please. Endometrosis was ruining my life until I had my IUD put in 1.5 years ago. I've honestly never felt better, and I only get my period once every few months. (It would be less if my body fat were lower)
