It's MY time to change....finally

RE: It's MY time to change....finally
Yes, you have to live... One day here or there will not derail you, and I'd argue could even help ("forces" a short TDEE break, and its definitely a mental break). The idea is to eat worthwhile foods most of the time - foods that properly fuel you with good nutrition - and eat enough so that the BS food isn't as tempting. Its there and you can have it if you really want, but you don't have that I Need It feeling. Keep on keepin on and it'll happen.

Oh, and can I ask you about your experience with the anti-candida protocal? How did you come to embark on it, how long were you on it, how do you eat now? (Still follow it, follow it only loosely, etc?)

RE: It's MY time to change....finally
just a few quick thoughts before the weekend arrives.

So over the winter my neck broke out something horrible. After multiple visits to the dermatologist plus some antibiotics (which are the worst thing for me and my gut, but that just goes to show how bad the break out was), finally my skin is back!!! The culprit was my winter scarf - I am wondering why I pay the dermatologist so much money since it was I not them that figured this out....anyway....I've never had great skin - lots of hyperpigmentation, but finally my face has cleared and my skin looks really good. There are still lots of brown spots, but with a bit of concealed - I'm good to go! I'm excited because with summer coming, concealer, foundation, and bronzer (a gift from the Lord) - it's just feels so heavy and I am a 5 minute gal with the makeup. If it takes more than 5 minutes - it's probably not happening for me. Sure this seems like something minor, but after my last pessimistic post - I really wanted to highlight something positive that I feel good about :-).

Tonight my oldest (8 year old) has his spring fling (party). - it was so much fun last year (clearly I don't get out enough when I'm enjoying my 7 years old's annual spring party like it's a real "night out"). I have to embarrass him at least once and get out on the floor and do a mom dance or two - haha. I use to hate to see my parents try to dance. But the dancing, the food, working some of the booths since I am on the PTO, and seeing some of my mom friends - it should be a wholesomely fun night!!

Still at cut - 1950 calories; 150 g protein; 25g or more fiber - Starting Week 3 of endurance on Monday means I am one step closer to hypertrophy, more food, and some gainz!!!

Yesterday, I received the first round of feedback from my dissertation proposal submission - oh my stars - it was harshand I was completely caught up on my feelings after reading what was written. I shed a quick but much needed tear - talked to my mom and spouse and then got out of my feelings to get started. I am SUPER stressed about it because I only have until 4/4 to make significant changes and perform more research. The next few weeks may involve a lot more sitting (while I write and research). The great news is that I did not turn to food - I'll take that as a NSV. Whelp time to get back to it and make these changes. Hope everyone has a great weekend - they are forecasting snow around here - but people were in shorts last week lol - I can't with the March weather,..

RE: It's MY time to change....finally
Quick Saturday update. The kids party last was great and I planned ahead and ate before I arrived and I was working so I ate nothing there. Had a good homemade beef stew when we eventually got home.
Today is weigh in day. I'm done 1.6# but it's the same 3-5 pounds I've been gaining and loosing for a year. When I get below 160- then I will celebrate

RE: It's MY time to change....finally
Wowzers - long time since my last journal entry - it's been busy....
School has been crazy - I didn't pass the first submission so I have to try again -very stressful having to write and research additional pages in less than a week - but this is the process.

It was my birthday last week - spent some time dining and drinking....and celebrating - it was great week.

I just moved into the hypertrophy phase (yeah!!!)...Endurance is just painful, but necessary. My coach has been slowly increasing my calories. So far there has not been much weight gain, but perhaps some reverse body recomp (heavy sigh). Eating about 2200 now - started at 1900 and increased about 50 calories per week. I think we are trying to find my TDEE before cutting. So I am just trying to be patient. I truly wish that 2200 was my cut or maintenance, but I found that the more calories that I eat, the hungrier I am. When I was at 1900 it didn't feel hungry but at 2200 now it seems hard at times to stick with that. I am just taking it one day at a time and enjoying my workouts - 4 days of lifting (2 upper and 2 lower, 1 metabolic finisher, and either hiit/total body metabolic type workout). I'm still getting my 2 days off and hitting a minimum of 10k steps per day.

So tomorrow I am competing in my first Spartan - yup I'm scared lol. I just want to finish and then perhaps the next one focus on time. I don't feel ready but I'm really excited about doing it. The girl I am doing it with has a different start time (grrrr). I was really hoping to race with someone but it is what it is...Iā€™ve been eating more today ā€“ either I am nervous about tomorrow or I have miscalculated my calories..
Overall, things are going well ā€“ I am just waiting to see some positive changes (i.e. fat loss and highly functioning metabolism).

Those changes will come with time. They will be slow, but they will come. Make sure you are taking pictures, because the scale will not reflect those changes as much as the mirror. Sounds like you are on the right path with a fantastic workout program, and great job working to find your TDEE, that really is key to this whole process!

Belated Happy Birthday and good luck tomorrow!!

Yikes Emma - I read your post last month when you posted and forgot to response to the anti-candida protocol - so sorry...Well I found a nutritionist (not recommended) who guided me through the process. While it worked it was very, very tough. I gave up all food with sugar - ie fruits, tomatoes, etc. I also used supplements i.e. oregano oil, and a few others. I did this for about 2-3 months. I just focused on eating LOTS of protein and very specific vegetables that were low sugar. Carbs were basically out because of the sugar content. It was brutal - not sure if I have stated that like 3-4 times already - lol - but it worked. I could drastically tell a difference.

Unfortunately, everytime my nd's want to fix one of my health issues it is always the same - lots of protein, veggies, and limited carbs - it helps, but who wants to live a life with no carbs!!!?!@!?@Undecided

Let me know if you have any other questions? Are you starting a similar protocol? If so I would recommend having a doctor guide you.

RE: It's MY time to change....finally
SOOOOO yesterday was incredible!!! I finished the Spartan - it took about 2 hours with the fastest woman taking about 1 hour. My body pleasantly shocked me!!! It was super tough but I only missed 3 obstacles - the javelin toss (the rope got tangled in my foot), the monkey bars (never could do this even in middle school) and the rope climb. So 90 burpees total!! The girl I raced with forgot to bring her pump and struggled with her breathing at times so we had to stop - I could have kept going but I think it's better to finish together and be supportive even if I could have pushed harder and it added about 15-20 min to my total time. Surprisingly, my fitbit only had my average hr at 138 for the 2-hour race and my total calorie burn for the day was only like 2500. Not sure how that is possible - but whatever - I am more focused on having completed the Spartan. We were in a stadium so we did about 100 floors cause it was a TON of stairs - carrying weights, water, and our body weight. We had a few pukers and some EMT visits from others but that's about it. I had a bit of DOMS last night, and was scheduled to work in the nursery this morning at church. Fortunately, the kids were super tame today! Now I am just tired and a little sore - but more tired. I need to stretch today and plan on getting a nap in soon I hope. It was really the self-esteem boost that I needed - I may be fat, but my training is doing something! We are planning to do another Spartan in June of this year - it will be twice as long as the one I did yesterday so 2 months to train.

What an amazing day! Sounds like you rocked it, and congrats on not being one of those pukers! laughing And I love that you waited for your friend. Sometimes it's not about finishing 1st (or 76th...) but about the experience and camaraderie. Love it!
