Had BMR testing done! Results vs Fitbit Charge HR
My local supermarket (HEB) just started offering BMR testing using the ReeVue test for $35. It's 10 minutes long and the results are instant, so I decided to take the plunge.

I had been using my Fitbit Charge HR as a guide for my TDEE, and turns out - it's spot on! My BMR test shows me at 1598 cals burned, which is slightly above average for my age. It estimated my TDEE to be 2241 with 30 mins of moderate exercise daily. I always do at least an hour daily, and my Charge HR shows 2395 on average lately. So I'm very happy with the accuracy of the Fitbit!

A registered dietician performed the test, but I am seriously questioning her credentials. She mentioned not eating my exercise cals back (which were shown at 166) - yeah, I get that. Then she says her recommended calorie intake for me is 1280/day! I immediately noticed that that was almost 1000 cals under my daily burn, and she said that was a good place to start for weight loss. Umm, no thanks!!! I am not risking my precious muscle!!! She did mention adjusting my calories based on my expenditure tho - I had been eating at a set 2000 a day, but this time of the year is pretty stagnant for me. In the fall, I am much more active and easily burn 2700-3000 daily. So my plan is to adjust my 15% cut based on my daily activity - maybe 1800 on sedentary days, up to 2500 on my more active days.

Overall, I think it was worth it. At least I can't blame a slow metabolism if I'm not losing weight now! happy

Well worth the $35.00 to know that your Fitbit was working correctly and to get an accurate BMR test. I always wondered if they were accurate. I only have the FitBit One. I had a HR charge when they first came out but ended up taking it back. Maybe should have kept it.

RE: Had BMR testing done! Results vs Fitbit Charge HR
Great info gathered! And, yep I found my FitBit (and now Garmin) to be spot on! Only thing I do is add a couple hundred calories on the days I strength to account for that.

And, yes, a lot of people vary their intake depending on their activity... Some people find themselves naturally hungrier on heavy workout or very active days and eat more on those days, and then less on more sedentary days. As long as it all averages out over the course of the week it's all good! Remember, your body does not have an internal clock that magically resets each night at midnight. For our bodies, one day just naturally rolls into another, so you may do better working off of a weekly average..
