It really felt good to participate with the rest of the group, like a normal person, and not be conspicuous because I was the only one NOT eating!

That's amazing. Well donenot worthy I understand very well the old school rule of want to keep treats to treat day! Not any more though.

Love the no guilt bagel! That's fabulous! And feeling like a normal person...priceless. Serious victories here. Isn't it shocking what psychological state we have put ourselves in over food? I hope you feel more freedom to simply be and live life.

RE: Maggie's Journal
Mid-week check-in: My weight has basically stayed the same since I got back from vacation. I was hoping to see a downward trend over the past 2 weeks, but nope, nothing. Staying the same. Which is great, to be eating 2000 calories and maintaining my weight...but I'm really frustrated that the 5 pounds I put on during my vacation seems to be a permanent part of me now. Sad I had been doing relatively well with increasing calories and not really gaining weight, but now I feel big and thick and I don't like it one bit!!! My head tells me to drop my calories, but I know that's not the answer. Really struggling with this right now...any thoughts? Do you think it's possible that I've hit my TDEE at only 2000-ish calories???? Gosh, I hope not. My FitBit average has been 2200 over the past 3 months...I'm thinking that's pretty accurate, as the calculators have me at 2375 using a moderate activity level and I haven't added in calories for weight lifting to the FitBit number. I've been at the 2000 level since my return from vacation on 8/15/2016. I know that the goal at this point isn't to lose weight, but I really thought the "excess" from vacation would at least slowly start to go away. Ugh....

RE: Maggie's Journal
I know it may feel contrary to how you're feeling, but have you considered going ahead and pushing up another 100 calories? I had a sort-of, semi-similar situation as you where I was still trying to find my TDEE...went on a trip, my work-out schedule went sideways, I was eating out a bit more where I couldn't weigh everything, so even if I thought I was eating at a certain calorie level, maybe I wasn't (over or under)...but on paper, I had still managed 180 calorie increase over 2 weeks. When I came back, my weight didn't increase 5 pounds, but it was up about 2.5 pounds (182.4 up to 185.2). That first week back, I only increased about 50 calories (to 2400) and got back into my work-out routine, and I still was trending around 183.6.

At that point, I also thought maybe I had exceeded my TDEE, so the next week I dropped 50 calories to 2350...my weight actually trended up! Highest weight that week was 184.6. So, I decided to just go ahead and push up to 2500 and then 2600 (for 2 weeks) and my weight has trended back down close to 184. I've been averaging about 2700 calories this week and will see what happens, but will probably hang out in this range 2600/2650/2700 for the next month as I think this time I truly am around my TDEE.

The calculator has me at 2384 moderate, 2653 strenuous. My UA band has me at 2050 for non-activity days. As I have read many times in the reset guide and on this forum, we can seriously underestimate our activity. So, if your fitbit has you at 2200 + the small increase for proper lifting calories, I definitely don't think you're at your TDEE at 2000. Just from your numbers, I would "pin the tail on the donkey" > 2300.

Seriously, if you were actually overeating your calories during your vacation and now you've "cut back" to what you were eating before you left, since you are still trying to find your TDEE and have not reset yet, maybe your body thinks you are putting it through a deprivation cycle like you might have done in the past. So, it is hording the fat, just in case. If you increase 100 or 200, you still wouldn't be at TDEE and may find your body relaxes somewhat and returns to its "happy place," trusting that you will continue to feed it. You may not increase in weight (except for the surge up and trend back down that normally happens with calorie increases) and may trend back down.

Also, do you have trends up during TOM? Since I am in chemically induced menopause, I don't really have that issue...but maybe that is playing a part also? Plus, just stressing about it can contribute to the weight sticking around...

Maybe check your water intake as well? If I start dropping my water intake, I seem to keep weight on....strange, I know. Just need to give it more than enough to flush the system out.

And, while the slow and steady process may alleviate massive weight increases, I don't think where I've read any journal where there was absolutely NO weight increase. But, I empathize with you, it is a hard process to go through so hopefully my experience helps you get past this point! Let us know how things go in the next couple weeks!

RE: Maggie's Journal
Oh, I would also say another sign that you have not reached your TDEE is that although you have not "lost" the 5 pounds gained on your trip, in the past two weeks of eating around 2000 calories, you have not been seeing any further slow, steady gain. So, take heart! You have a few hundred more calories to add, I would bet.

What hannah77 said ^^ I'd keep with increasing calories, I don't think Tdee has been reached.

RE: Maggie's Journal
Thanks Hannah and West! Funny how you need others to tell you what you already know, lol! I had been around 1900-1950 before vacation, so I thought going "up" to 2000 after vacation was a good move (although I'm fairly certain I was eating above that while on vacation). Oh well, what's done is done. To be honest, the thought of increasing calories did cross my mind...but the thought of gaining another couple pounds on top of the 5 I already gained was holding me back. Interestingly enough, I've been hungrier than usual since Saturday (after a really tough workout with my trainer)...so maybe I do need to up the calories a bit. Going for 2050 today going forward, we'll see how things go from there. I'm hesitant to go up 100 calories per day at this point...

The mind games on this journey are really rough!!! I don't do well with uncertainty... tongue

On another note, has anyone ever experienced increased hunger after getting a massage? I know a good hard workout will increase hunger as your body/muscles recover...but is this also possible after a massage? I had one on Monday night, had a LOT of tightness and sore spots, so I'm wondering if that could also be contributing to the increased appetite I've been experiencing. Any thoughts?

RE: Maggie's Journal
Can I ask what type of massage it was? Never had one in my life but contemplating (for over a year now laughing ) a sport massage/ deep tissue.

Do you find them beneficial?

RE: Maggie's Journal
Yes, West, I do find them beneficial...but mostly when I'm consistently going. As far as the specific type, I really don't know, but it was a 90 minute full-body massage. I had a LOT of tightness in my lower back and glutes, which I didn't know I had until the massage, lol! The main reason I went is because of the tightness and strain I'm still experiencing in my neck, upper back, and traps. I have made a promise to myself to be more regular with my massages and go at a minimum once a month. I expect a lot from my body from my workouts, the least I can do for it is treat it right. Plus, I have a membership at Massage Envy, so there really isn't any good reason for me to NOT go once a month. Time and schedule was keeping me from going regularly, but I've had to let go of the fact that my favorite massage therapist's schedule just doesn't work with my schedule, so I'm trying out new therapists that work on the days I can go, and hopefully I will find a new favorite!

As a side note, I was super hungry yesterday and ate 2,126 calories! Maybe you guys were right and it's just time to increase my calories...I'll see how things go over the next week. Thanks again for the input/support! blushing
