Getting back to me... Toki's Journal
Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Toki, I am 31, female, living in the UK with Ulcerative Colitis, who tends to overuse exclamation points (sorry in advance if this gets annoying!)

I found EM2WL through myfitnesspal. I have kind of been lurking on this site and the MFP forum for the while but hadn't really taken the plunge to participate until I had a few questions which Tereza and Ichel cleared up for me.

I have never been overweight in fact up until 2 years ago I was always known for being pretty thin. I was proud of the fact that I could still fit into clothes I bought when I was a teenager (I had a major height growth spurt and stopped growing at 12-13!).

Then my doctor put me on some anxiety meds and went on annual leave for 2 months. I was on it for 2-3 months. I had gained 2 stone in approximately 1 month of taking the meds. I then found out, when my doctor came back from annual leave, that the weight gain was caused by the meds as it is given to anorexics to make them eat! It basically draws the fat from your blood so you constantly feel like you need to eat high fat foods and then not care that you did! I never felt such a loss of control in my life and it definitely gave me new found sympathy for others who have this problem with or without medication.

So for the 1st time in my life I was officially overweight.

After I stopped taking the meds I immediately dropped 7 pounds and obviously went on a pretty restrictive diet but l had residual binge eating issues from meds and now I know also from the low calorie diet.

Since I came of the meds, I have been following the MFP method on and and off but I was just gaining and losing the same 2-4 pounds with maybe a 1 pound loss every other month or so. In March last year I weighed 10 stone 13 to put this in context I my usual range varies between 8 stone 4 and at most 9 stone 2 (this is usually the point I would start to restrict a bit in the past!).

At the end of June I started following the TDEE method because I didn't like the calorie cycling and how little I had to eat on Sundays. I started at 1835 cals the 1st week but I still ended up over eating, I have been gradually increasing my calories and I am now up to 2500-2600/day.

I bought a Garmin fitness watch 3 weeks as I am still shocked about how many calories my theoretical TDEE should be! Now I think my Garmin is broken because my TDEE is stupidly high (in my opinion)!

I decided to start a journal for a few reasons:
1) to make me accountable
2) to have somewhere to 'talk' about what is going on - all my friends are pretty low cal and would think I am cray craylaughing
3) It might help someone else who recognises that someone else is going through what they are going through - this has very much been the case with me whilst I have been hanging around as an unregistered guest for the past year!

Thanks for reading, hope to see you around.

RE: Getting back to me... Toki's Journal
Right so my stats...

Current weight: 9 stone 10 pounds - 136 pounds (up 3 pounds from start - down 1 pound from last week).
Height: 5 foot 3 inches
Waist: 30 1/4 inches

TDEE (EM2WL calc): 2652
TDEE (Garmin - 3 wk average): 2935! - mostly walking with Saturday 10K walk/run. Only 1 week has my 3 workouts/week included.

Now feeling better so new TDEE may need to be worked out as I am slowly going back to my normal work out routine:

Mon: Weighted Circuit/Hiit (BBG) - 40 mins with warm down
Tues: 5K/30 mins (might start with a walk/run - depends on how I feel on the day)
Wed: Weighted Circuit/Hiit (BBG) - 40 mins with warm down
Thu: Might rest or do my 2nd 5K (again depends on how i feel)
Fri: Weighted Circuit/Hiit (BBG) - 40 mins with warm dow
Sat: 10K walk run
Sun: Meal Prep and a wander (walk)

Daily:
5 miles walk (2.5mile commute each way (50 mins approx))
20 - 30 mins walk at lunch time

Intrigued to see what my TDEE numbers will be by the end of this week...

RE: Getting back to me... Toki's Journal
Thank you Anitra and KatiAuchinleck for the lovely welcomes.

So yesterday did not quite go to plan!
Started well... did my weighted circuit workout, knees ached a bit from broad jumps but all in all okay.

Then just before I left the house, the Irritable part of by bowel disease made itself known! Thus also proving what \i was in a bit of denial about - I am no longer in remission. Got to work a bit late, emailed my IBD nurse to figure out what course of meds I need to take/increase or change. I now have to go to the hospital at some point today to take tests, luckily I already had the afternoon booked off for a dentist appointment - today is gonna be a fun day for me!

Things then got a bit worse just before leaving work when the nausea and pain started. Managed to get home with a couple of pit stops to keep lunch from re-appearing (sorry if tmi). Laid on my couch till 10pm when I managed to stomach some pineapple and mango and then back on to couch till 1am when I felt safe enough to actually get back into bed.

This means I didn't have a afternoon snack, didn't have dinner and only ended up eating half the calories I was supposed to. I still ended up with a TDEE if 2528 for the day with literally no movement after 7pm.

So, I didn't run this morning but I am still going to walk to work. There will probably will be a lot of walking today. I am going to take all my packed meals and snacks in with me as normal but truthfully not sure how much of it I will actually eat.

Here is to a better day than yesterday!

Toki

Oh gosh, hope you get some answers and get to feeling better soon. I can't imagine how miserable that must be... What types of foods, or what things seem to aggravate your symptoms?

RE: Getting back to me... Toki's Journal
Thanks Maevvis.

I hope I get some answers soon as well AnitraSoto.

The doctors tend to advise going on the low FODmap diet - eliminating certain sugars. I followed the diet for about a year and then introduced the different sugars to see which ones are actually the problem. So I am lactose and Fructan intolerant (wheat, rye, onion and garlic) so I tend to avoid these. Apart from those anything going through an ulcerated system just hurts so eating anything ranges from uncomfortable to painful really.

Anywho managed to eat breakfast but that took me just under 2 hours! Just finished at 12pm. Will def be waiting a while before I try lunch. I not sure how close to my calorie goals I will be today. May have to write off this week and not force myself to eat to goal.

RE: Getting back to me... Toki's Journal
Morning...

So yesterday went better than expected. After my tests I went home and had a 2 hour nap then got up to force some dinner down. Managed to at much closer to goal than I thought I would but my calorie burn was also much higher than I expected from just walking. I can't imagine ever eating that much!

Stats:
Calorie goal: 2600
Achieved: 2384
Calorie burn: 3669!! (Garmin Vivosmart HR+)

Also feeling better today managed to do my arm workout this morning but it was at about a 70% effort level, don;t want to use up all my spoons (energy) before I even get to work.

Will try and get up to calorie goal today. i think I will be staying at 2600 for another week cause I don't think I will have really hit it this week. Will look at the calorie average at the end of the week.
