Yasmine's Journal
Hello everbody
I decided to start a journal here.
First I will tell a little bit about myself. I already started a Thread in the "eat More?" forum, so I hope it's not too much about myself.
I am a 24 year old swiss woman and was suffering from anorexia for five years (from 18 to 23). Finally my weight is normal again since about one year. I got my period in may of this year and my weight went up a lot since then even though I didn't eat more oder less than before. Maybe it's because of the hormones?!
I started to work out in february with a German app programm, called freeletics. It's a very hard body weight workout programm that lasts three months. After that I stopped doing so many workouts but I always went to one or two classes of trampolin aerobic or step aerobic mixed woth body weight training.
I started one month ago with EM2WL. Maybe I have to tell a bit more about my eating habits during the last months. I ate around 1200 kcal for a pretty long time. Then in February I decided to do a reverse diet, whats pretty much the same as a metabolism reset. My weight started to go up when I reached 1600 calories. So I stopped there but the weight gain went on. I gained from 114 lbs/ 52 kg to now 130 lbs/ 58 kg in august. That's when I started the metabolism reset and at the moment I am eating 1800 kcal a day. I try to only weigh once a week and usually it's on fridays.
I am 5'5 high and my calculated TDEE is about 2100 kcal. My workout routine at the moment is a 90 day challenge by Mark Lauren with 3-4 workouts a week (20 min each). And I go to 1-2 aerobic classes a week with body weight training.
My goal: I want to get stronger and be able to eat at my TDEE without gaining anymore weight.
I will a add a picture of my weight gain over the last 10 months.

After such a long history of anorexia and eating disorders, your metabolism is surely just still suppressed and not functioning at a normal level yet. It is going to take it some time to recover, so just take your time and make those increases slowly and eventually it will catch up to your intake.

Know that you are doing an awesome job and getting over an eating disorder is not an easy thing.

RE: Yasmine's Journal
Update:
My weight has not gone up that much: 130 lb
But I calculated all my calories eaten over the last week and I come to an average of 1730. So this means I have not eaten as much as I wanted. I aimed for 1800 but the problem is that on the weekends I have no possibility to measure my food and so I need to guess.
Usually I save myself some calories for the weekend because I know there I will be drinking wine and with friends I don't want to hold back too much.
Is there anybody with the same problem? Or how do you handle it when you go outside or are eating with friends? And the problem with drinking some wine is, that it has many calories but is not really satisfying

My plan: up the calories to 1850, starting today.
From Monday to Friday I eat around 30 % Protein, 30% fat and 40% carbs.

In my 90 day challenge from Mark Lauren I am in the third of three levels now but it's pretty hard. At the moment it's four times a week 25 minutes of body weight training. We have a break in school for three weeks, so the sports class with step aerobic is not taking place.

The next two weeks I will travel abroad with a friend and there will be no possibility to weigh my food. I'll have to guess. So I will see what happens to my weight...

RE: Yasmine's Journal
My advice for hanging out with friends? Eat and enjoy. You will not do that much damage, I promise you. Enjoy life and wine and your friends! Don't try and save calories for the weekend. Eat mindfully during the week, meaning good nourishing food and the occasional treat should you want it, and if you do that, going all out on the weekends won't be so tempting. By depriving yourself during the week, you are inadventently creating a mindset to go crazy on the weekends when you are out. I have to run out the door now, but hang in there! You are doing great. And I wanted to mention that I have personal experience with anorexia -its been awhile but I definitely remember - so feel free to reach out to me either in your journal, mine, or a PM if you ever need anything.

RE: Yasmine's Journal
I second what Emma said!! My weekends used to be a junk-food free-for-all because I only allowed myself "treats" on Saturdays. Now that I've been much more moderate, I find my weekends are much better! I give myself the freedom to enjoy the occasional treat during the week, and I have found that my cravings have gone away...mostly what I'm looking for on the weekend is good, nourishing food!

Try to really tune in to your body's hunger signals while you're unable to weigh and measure, and eat when you're hungry and stop eating when you're satisfied. Enjoy the occasional treat if you want to. Deprivation doesn't work, but moderation does! And enjoy your time abroad and your time with friends!

RE: Yasmine's Journal
Yep, I agree with the above^^^ Don't try to restrict calories during the week to "save up" for the weekends. 99% of the time that ends up backfiring as that restriction will lead to over-indulgence when you do allow yourself to relax.

As far as the wine, you could also try doing wine spritzers (like 2/3 wine to 1/3 club soda), or even alternating every other wine with a club soda and lime. That often helps if you are someone who just likes to have a drink in your hand to sip. That may help to avoid not only some of the empty calories, but also some of the "munching" that often comes with drinking (at least that's what happens with me)...

And as far as eating out or when you have zero idea of calorie counts --- just continue to try to build your meals around a protein. At least start each meal with a protein and try to get some veggies and whole grains and then just don't stress about the calories. You can go out and eat and enjoy yourself with friends and family or travel and still eat mindfully...

RE: Yasmine's Journal
Thanks to all of you for your support.
Travellng is so nice! I am not counting calories but my problem is the protein. For example the breakfast is only bread and fruit at the hostel I am at rightnow. And there are not that many vegetables as I would love to eat... But anyway, I enjoy these days and go back to counting in a week.

RE: Yasmine's Journal
Yes, just enjoy the travels and the foods you may not normally get to try. Try and keep your protein and your water level up. Logging, etc. can wait until you get back.
