Starting off
Hi all wave

I'm Annette, a new member from Australia. I'm going to use the EM2WL approach to help set me up for a healthy old age. I turned 50 in January, and the number has screwed with my head a little! I've been dieting on and off since I was 13 or so, and have probably completely ruined my metabolism. However, I've been "off" any form of "lifestyle" or diet for a while now, so am consuming plenty of calories! I hope it doesn't take too long to find my TDEE, but having read so many journals and posts on here and MFP, I have a suspicion my wish will not be fulfilled!

I really hope I don't gain much weight while finding my TDEE. My poor knees are suffering, as are my feet, lower back and hips. I have dodgy joints, apparently, and this menopause / perimenopause is just making it all worse. I will be having both knees replaced in a year, so want to reduce the weight on them, and build up the surrounding muscles so I can recover well. This morning, as I hoisted myself up the stairs for breakfast, I imagined what it would be like to take them without relying on my arms to pull me up. Wow! Then I imagined doing body weight squats and even lunges... I haven't been able to do these for quite a few years. Who knew that such small things would become so important! Anyway, that's my motivation, and hopefully an image I can bring to mind when I get disheartened...

I'll start a journal and track my "journey". I have really enjoyed reading your journals and the lovely support that is offered on this forum. I hope to get to know you better over time big grin

RE: Starting off
Welcome!! SO glad you have joined us!

So have you already calculated your TDEE and do you have a rough estimate of how much you have been eating recently? You said you have been "consuming plenty of calories", so depending on how your current intake compares to your TDEE, you may have an easier time of it.

Yes, please start a journal of your own and give us some background and history there (it makes it so much easier having everything in one thread, especially when we need to look back to refresh ourselves on someone's history...)

Again, welcome! Can't wait to follow your journey, and please know we are here to help and guide you along the way...
