RE: Eat, Play, Write
Still going....It is tempting to track "just a little," but I'm resisting the urge. I do have a pretty decent mental picture, I think, of what I choose and how my day is going foodwise. And yes, kcmsmith0405, I think just "living" should be our goal. Step by step.

Starting weight in Nov. - ~145
@~2125/day - 1-10 to 1-30 up & back down 148.2-149.4
@2000/day -- 1-31 to 2-10 up & back down, 149.4-150.4
@2128-2190/day -- 2-12 to 2-18 up & back down, 150 to 151.2
@ average 2225 -- 2-19 to 2-24 down & back up 151 to 152.6
@2360-2400 -- 2-25 to 3-4 steady rise from 152.2 to 155 - eeeek!
Not tracking calories/macros
3-4 155
3-5 154.4
3-6 155
3-7 153.8
3-8 153.8

BMR - 1296
TDEE - ~ 2100 (Moderate-2010, Strenuous-2237)
Currently eating at will & not tracking!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I've decided to return to tracking. I haven't been tracking my calories the past few days, but I have been writing down before bed what I ate to get a sense of my "calories by instinct." (Clearly I'm not cured of the need to know!) Anyway....

I went back this morning and tallied up the numbers. 2143-2260. Pretty much what I've been eating before I stopped tracking.

I don't know why I'm feeling...hmmm, sad? disappointed? worried? some weird mix of not great?... I'm sure it's related to my overall weight gain. I don't know what to do at this point. And yes, I know the readings say that if I'm thinking about getting to cut, I'm not ready to cut. But I really do want to lose the 10 pounds I've gained. It's not the number! It's the feeling of fat roll around my middle (it was mostly gone) and tight clothes and generally feeling fatter. Gaaa!

So what to do now? I'm thinking I should go to 2200 and stay there for a bit to see, but that may be too high based on my current activity. I gained and didn't go back down at 2225, but at ~2150 I gained & then lost. My exercise schedule is haywire with moving plans - walking sporadically, and some weight training 2-3 days, although I'm also hoisting boxes and furniture as I pack and donate etc. I'm thinking more and more of getting a Fitbit, although part of me resists yet another gadget in my life.

Mostly I'm thinking out loud here, but it's nice to know there are people reading who get it. :-)

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Sheila, yes, we all get it and we all have moments when we think the same thing.

Getting pregnant after a bulk to gain muscle, when I had a cut planned changed things for me three years ago. Then having a baby and wanting to have the body I had before also made my mind spin. Should I eat less, should I buy a Fitbit, should I do more cardio or should I just carry on with what was really important to me? I realized I didn't want to eat less, I didn't want to feel more tired and above all, I had added responsibilities. Am I as cut as I wish I was, not yet, but I realized that at my age and in my life, all the second guessing was coming from shiny objects. Moving on at a slower pace kept me sane without leaving me behind, kept me going when life got messy.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I totally understand your thinking! I hate my gains as well and would like to lose it. But at the same time I know I have to go up with my calories to find my TDEE. I increased last week and the weight is going up now.
I don't have any advice for you. I just think we're in the same boat.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
It looks like 2200 would be a good place to settle for a while. It even kinda looks like you might be on a slight downward trend now?

I can totally relate to feeling the fat on me and not liking how clothes are fitting! I'd like to lose this weight too.

BUT, our bodies likely won't want to leg to of it yet. We need to nourish our bodies and help them to trust that we are not starving anymore! That could take a while, maybe several months for me.

Hang in there!

Yes, I'm going to go for 2200 for a while and see what happens. Too bad we can't eat together! ;-)

RE: Eat, Play, Write
This is interesting (to me, at least!). I just looked again at my past year, and found I weigh just about the same now as this time last year. I was down to 143 last Sept/Oct, then started EM2WL in Nov. Last year this time, I was eating 1100-1300 calories + walking, swimming, and weight training ~2 hours/day. I was losing weight, but very slowly. Now I'm up 10 lbs from when I started EM2WL and am more or less holding steady, but for the past 12 weeks I've been eating 2000-2400 calories and exercising a lot less. Wow. Sort of puts things in perspective.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
10 more lbs is not what you want when you are working on losing weight for sure. But maintaining while eating almost twice of what you were eating to lose very slowly is huge. It's not only about eating like others and enjoy this part of life (we cannot forget how much of our human nature and relations is connected to the act of eating and enjoying food). At such a low caloric level, you were not losing fat. Your body was holding onto fat, screaming for dear life. Fat doesn't cost much to be maintenance, is cheaper in calories than muscle, it helps the body to regulate temperature, hormones and so on, so in a case of a famine, it will the the last thing to go. At that point the loss was muscle, bones, tendons, ligaments, brain tissue... not good stuff to lose at all.

I am sure than once you settle in your new place and are able to get back to your strength training routine you will feel better and see changes.

Exactly! I feel much better about the 10 lbs after looking at those numbers again and comparing last year to now. Thanks for all your feedback and support, Tereza!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Happy Friday, all! I'm back to tracking calories, and will be aiming for 2150 for at least a couple of weeks to see what happens. I recalculated my estimated TDEE because I'm just not exercising as much these days as I was when I started, and likely won't get back to that level until after we get settled in early May. The average of estimates for Moderate & Strenuous is 2123, so I'm rounding up to 2150.

Starting weight in Nov. - ~145
@~2125/day - 1-10 to 1-30 up & back down 148.2-149.4
@2000/day -- 1-31 to 2-10 up & back down, 149.4-150.4
@2128-2190/day -- 2-12 to 2-18 up & back down, 150 to 151.2
@ average 2225 -- 2-19 to 2-24 down & back up 151 to 152.6
@2360-2400 -- 2-25 to 3-4 steady rise from 152.2 to 155 - eeeek!
@2143-2260 while not tracking every day - down-up-down a pinch 155-153.8

BMR - 1296
TDEE - ~ 2150-ish
