Eat, Play, Write

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I've decided to stop pushing food if I feel I've had enough. Yesterday I felt just fine at 1999 calories - fed, not overfed. Forcing myself to eat more just to hit a number has started to feel just as bad as going hungry to hit a number. I seem to be inclined to eat between 1800-2100 if I just listen to my body, and depending on what I eat. Yesterday I had lots of protein - egg white & kefir in my oats for breakfast, salmon for lunch, big chicken breast for dinner, skyr & nuts for snack - and about 33% fat, and I just didn't want/need any more food.

Tereza, you're so right - I felt much more centered after my morning walk, and I went for another 20-min walk in the evening. My stress-be-gone medication!

Outdoor walk are underestimated. Those 20 minutes are sure worth gold! Yes, listen to your body. It's perfectly fine to being hungrier or less hungry in different days. We somehow "unlearned" how to eat intuitively, but it can be done. Isn't it what we all envision , to be able to not log, eat what we need and feel good?!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
My average weight is up a bit this week after hitting its highest since I started this process, but daily weights are coming back down. I feel much more relaxed about the whole thing since I started looking at weekly averages, and restarted my daily walks (even though it's been only a few days, I feel the effects already - yay!). I also feel much better about what I'm eating since I've stopped pushing (up or down) for a specific number. I'm still tracking, so not eating entirely by intuition, but close. Following my body's cues feels mahvelous, dahling, and I was surprised/delighted to find that my macros were spot on yesterday, although I didn't look at them until late last night. I find that very encouraging.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I don't know if it's the downtick in stress from not pushing for that magic calorie number or getting back to my walking routine or what, but I feel energized the past couple of days. Without pushing, I'm consistently hitting just below 2100, which seems right for now. I think after we move and I get back to hiking (hills & mountains!), I'll probably need to increase. But right now, I feel satisfied & fueled. And almost packed! :-)

RE: Eat, Play, Write
The stress does make a big difference. Usually after going for a chill phase we come back re-energized, less confused about the process and ready to move on to the next phase. I am sure that your activity level will change after you move.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
As we get ready to move in AAACK! 3.5 weeks, I'm scheduling lots of lunches/coffees/breakfasts/dinners with friends I want to see before we leave. All those "eat outs" can be a bit worrisome, and although I've been reasonably good about exercising, it's not always easy to fit it in. What to do? Why, combine the urge to see people with the urge to move, of course! I'm lucky enough to live within safe walking distance of a slew of restaurants and coffee houses, so I have been trying to meet at places to which I can walk in 30 minutes or less. What a great win-win! (And yes, I know, I could meet for walk-and-talks instead of food, but a lot of people really don't want to do that. Go figure.) I just hope we find a place in our new town where I can walk or bike to many things.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
I went a bit high yesterday -- 2377 -- but no regrets aside from the high sodium :-). That bumped my weekly average up to 2107, and more & more I think my TDEE estimate is slightly hgh for my current sporadic exercise. I'm still not ready to let go of all the tracking, but eating without being obsessed with hitting the numbers does feel great. Onward!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Keep doing what you are doing, Sheila, you are doing great! Trust me, the time will pass anyway and it's better to eat at your TDEE while you are dealing with your life changes and stress for now. Once you settle in the new place, find your new routine, it will be much easier to go into a cut (if you want to), physically and mentally. Your body's response will be much better.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Good morning! Not much to report, just checking in for record keeping for myself I've recalculated my estimated TDEE for the moment, but expect it to increase when I get back to regular exercise levels. For now, I'm still not trying to hit any particular number as long as I'm not TOO far adrift.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Monday, Monday....3 weeks from today we hit the road. Whew! Time is whizzing by. I'm quite sure that eating well is fundamental to keeping me feeling good through the process. I seem to have hit some sort of balance here - not starving all the time, not stuffed/bloated, not craving anything I shouldn't, lots of energy, sleeping well.... Fuel to the fire! Really glad I found EM2WL.
