RE: Eat, Play, Write
Today is the first day of my no-weigh-in pre-moving scale-is-packed stretch. I don't have the shakes! big grin I am still tracking my calories and macros, partly out of habit and partly to be sure I'm getting enough protein - that's where it's still easy for me to slip up, and I know I feel a LOT better when I eat enough protein. And I'm trying to stay reasonably close to my estimated TDEE. I'll be having lots of lunches with friends in the next couple of weeks, plus eating on the road for a week or so, and I need to keep track to stay on track! Anyway, I won't be weighing in again until sometime in early May. I thought about taking measurements, but decided to just let go of that as well until after the move.

I want to thank you all again for this forum - it's been so helpful not only to keep my own journal, but also to get feedback and to read your journals/stories/challenges/victories. Heart thumbs up lovestruck

Did I read it right?! Scale break? Did the scale break while packing laughing. I've been waiting to hear this!
Yay!!! Enjoy the freedom! Work on the protein, use those weeks to truly nail the protein and don't freak out without the scale!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Five days without weighing in, and I'm still functioning! big grin

I am tracking what I eat, but I'm not tallying calories until the end of the day, and my calories over the 5 days have ranged from 1592 to 2430. I was going to average the past week, but decided not to -- might as well take on two obsessive behaviors at once, right? I'm neither pushing food nor trying to cut, just eating what I feel like. That low date was definitely an anomaly, so I checked my macros that day -- protein was higher than normal (34%), fat lower than normal (23%), so the lower cal count makes sense. Anyway, that's where I am on this scale-free stint. Wheeee!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Morning, all. Tereza or other experts, I hope you're out there, because I'm confused & a bit panicked. I went a week without weighing, but DH needed to weigh a couple of packages and got the scale out, and I weighed myself this morning to see what's happening. Backstory...I recalculated my TDEE because I have not been getting my usual exercise for the past month or so, and probably won't until after we move - so current estimated TDEE is 1813. My average calories for the past week = 1798, so on target. To my surprise/horror, my weight has gone up 2.8 pounds since April 7 - 157.8 this morning. How is that possible? Worse, I tried to put on a pair of pants I wore last summer and fall, and they are very tight, not just to feel but to look at. What should I do? My first impulse it to cut back to what I ate that lost me 70 pounds (14 of which are now back), but I'm trying not to panic completely. Should I stay at 1800? Cut more? I need help.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Hey Sheila, darn scale! Seeing they scale going up after cutting seems like the craziest thing ever, but it is perfectly normal. Yes, you recalculated your TDEE since you are working out less, but maybe since you are moving, you are doing more, you schedule is out of the windows and maybe the eats are just happening when they happen. No matter how relaxed you are about the move, stress is present. I am sure that there are things not exactly under your control right now.

All this will make the scale go crazy and fluctuations will happen ( just like when you have a cold, barely eat and gain weight). This is not the time to tighten the seat belts and go all out. You are almost there. Let go of the things you can control. Eat mindfully but at the same time focusing on nurturing your body. Don't beat yourself up. Cutting calories now will not make you lose weight.

Deep breaths, stay consistent.

Thanks, Tereza. I'm a little calmer than I was this morning, and got a nice walk in before the rain, which helped. Honestly, the scale was shocking, but it was the tight pants that really did it! I'll stick with 1800 until we're moved and I can get back to my regular exercise and weights.
