RE: Eat, Play, Write
Good morning, all! Week 3 of my cut is complete, and I'm still losing -- down 1.8. Yay! I've tweaked my macros because I was hungry a lot of the time, so I've been trying 30%P, 40%F, 30%F and I'm not hungry at all except at meal time. We went out for breakfast this morning and I had steak and eggs, cottage cheese, and fruit. Yum yum yum - and I'm stuffed. -)

I don't expect much problem with TG as it's just the two of us and we eat pretty healthy. We do get some pie, but make the sweet potatoes without sugar and butter (to me, they're sweet enough as is) and fill up mostly on turkey and steamed veggies. I may extend my cut to 5 or 6 weeks, and then go back to TDEE for at least a month through Christmas and New Year. Feeling good! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, whether you're here in the States or not. Gobble gobble!

Good morning, all! Week 4 of my cut is complete. I'm up slightly from last week but that's fine - I enjoyed Thanksgiving! I hope those of you who celebrate enjoyed it, too. I'm almost back to where I was last Nov, but eating more. Yay! I'm back on the cut track for another 2 weeks (6 total), then I'm going back to tdee through March or so as we'll be moving (yes, again) the end of Feb. I think I'm estimating a bit high at the moment as I'm not getting my usual twice daily long walks (rain, rain, rain), so I plan to increase calories very slowly when I do. But of course there's Christmas....

Being back where you were while eating more makes it all worth! Without increasing and going through this process would end up getting you eating less to probably not even be where you were. Yay for more calories! Hey, Christmas could work as another mini reset wink

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Good morning, all! Week 5 of my cut is complete. I'm up again (right back where I started) and wondering whether I've over-estimated my TDEE, especially since my calorie average for the week was actually a 12% cut based on my previous estimte of 1850. I'm still not back to exercising like I did in the summer, although I'm hoping to fix that soon. I didn't this week because of a bad cold. Anyway, Tereza or anyone, how much "grace period" is there on metabolism/TDEE when exercise level changes? A week? a month? 3 months? I haven't been able to find any info on this. The calculator does show that 1690, which is my average for the past 5 weeks, is very close to half way between sedentary and light maintenance, so that makes sense. I don't want to cut any lower than that, so I guess I'll just aim for 1690 for a few weeks and see what happens (unless I get my butt moving again, which I will I will I will.....)

I was only planning one more cut week anyway, so not a big deal there, but I'm really wondering if I need to rethink my TDEE for now. I'm actually not unhappy with my current weight for now, but I don't want to gain.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Don’t cut any lower. You were sick and your body needs the calories to recover. Interesting and annoying fact is that water retention increases when you have a cold. The increase is fluctuation. Diet mentality will tell you to go lower, it nope, time for a TDEE break. You’ve been cutting for 5 weeks, http://eatmore2weighless.com/diet-break-just-hype/

Not sure about the grace period, but if activity slows down for a week or two, I’d assume it’s not a big deal, since we recommend exercise breaks while eating at the same caloric level. Maybe if it becomes a thing after that, then it’s time to re-evaluate.

RE: Eat, Play, Write
No, I wasn't planning to cut any lower. I just wonder whether I need to rethink maintenance TDEE until I get back to my previous exercise level. My average cals last week were a bit low because I just didn't feel like eating one of my "cold" days. Anyway, I'm aiming for 1690 for the next couple of weeks and then I'll slowly increase - maybe 50/week - and see what happens. Then I plan to chill for a while. We're going to be moving again end of Feb, and between that and Christmas and a trip I plan to take in early Jan. and some writing and teaching deadlines, lots of change and stress. I don't want to gain weight, but I also don't want to make myself completely crazy with tracking and obsessing. Thanks once again for being the voice of calm and reason, Tereza!

RE: Eat, Play, Write
Sigh. 6-week cut done, and I'm up .4 lb. Actually, last week turned out not to be a cut, and pretty much confirms that I had overestimated my TDEE at my current exercise level -- I had thought it was around 1850 when I was walking 1-2 hours/day, but I think it's pretty clearly about 1690, which is what I thought last week. So I'm finished cutting for a while, and am going to aim for 1650-1700 for a while, without obsessing. Also going to stop weighing myself for a few weeks, and I'm going to take a break from this forum as well. I'll exercise when I can, but have decided to cut some of the stress as we go through Christmas and then get ready to move again in late Feb.

Happy winter holidays -- all of them! -- to all who celebrate.

Hi Sheila, that must feel a little disappointing! Do your clothes feel tighter as well? Just a question - when you walk about how many miles or kms do you walk an hour? Happy holidays and hope your move is safe and easy.

Fiona, some clothes do, but not all - tighter waists feel tighter. I should measure. Anyway, I walk about 3.4 mph - I'm 5'3" so not long legged. That's a comfortable pace for me to sustain for long walks.
