Upping Cals - What to expect & why you need patience...

RE: Upping Cals - What to expect & why you need patience...
As a therapist and someone who suffered from a past eating disorder, I would definitely suggest you talk to your GP about seeing someone. What you are explaining below, if not already an ED is someone on the way = definitely having a disordered view of food and yourself. HUGS and best of luck in getting healthy in all the ways you can!

I am stuck and stuck badly - I am practically living off raw food (couple of fruits) and little of other food - working out 1-2 hrs on an (almost) daily basis but still now since last few months my weight has started to increase rather than stay the same.
As I spent a lot of time getting it down, I am really terrified - I tell myself daily it does not matter - I should eat but don't feel like looking at food now. Try to make all kind of excuses not to eat - force myself to eat and then feel really guilty. Try to have breakfast (skipping that at times or having an apple), have a light lunch (yogurt/some fruit) and a non existent dinner.
I do feel hungry after my workout or my walk (1-1.5 hrs) but before when I used to ensure I eat sensibly, I have started cutting down on that too now.
I am really not sure what to do - I know I need to eat but somehow I am not able to.
Please advice/help

RE: Upping Cals - What to expect & why you need patience...
Hi, it's been 7 weeks for me now after years of low cal eating. I've gone from 1200 a day up to 2000, 2100 on the days l lift. The scale tells me l've put on over 3kgs since l began but l know l'm slimmer around my waist. Im finding it hard getting on the scales each week now though as l worry it's going to just keep on rising. Do l just stick with it no matter how much l go up? My TDEE is 2135 and l'm lifting 3 times a week. One of those is with a PT to try to ensure l'm doing the right thing but it's still mentally hard to watch the scale go up. I am enjoying the 3xtra food though big grin

First of all, welcome!

A lot of what determines how much weight you gain will be your dieting history. Those who come from a background of severe, long-term dieting will often take longer for their bodies to adapt. Remember, if your metabolism has been suppressed by years of dieting, it may take it a while to get back up and running where it should be.

Have you gotten a chance to read the Metabolism Reset Guide? That will really walk you through the entire process and give you an idea of what to expect.

So when you increased your intake, did you wait for your weight to stabilize between increases? Give us a little more history, background, *and your stats* and we will be happy to help you out however we can.

I would suggest starting a thread of your own (in the personal Journals section of these forums) and giving us a little bit more history and background. It's also a great place to update and track your progress.
