Bench press
Ok, I had an experience of not being able to get the bar back up and it scared me to death so I always use the Smith machine. For Meso 2 would you suggest I lighten the weight and use the bench or stick with the Smith to push my limits when I don't have a spotter?

RE: Bench press
I just asked Kiki what to
Do about this. I have no rack and my spotter is t always home when I work out. Will it kill my progress to lift so light on the bench press stuff?

RE: Bench press
See you use stabilizer muscles without the Smith machine, but without a spotter you can't push the limits...so think I will probably stick with the smith...

RE: Bench press
Hmm...this is an interesting topic b/c from what I've read it has been my understanding to try to stay away from Smith machines. But in your case Lucia, like you mention, would it be more beneficial?

RE: Bench press
Yeah sometimes I am in the gym all alone, so that bar goes down and I can't get it back up...ummm issues. I don't know maybe I will drop weight a little bit and do the bench press I really would prefer using the stabilizer muscles and all to finally ONE DAY get to my goal of benching my weight...

RE: Bench press
Oh wow. That would scare me too! I think you're smart to decrease a bit if you don't have a spotter. I never have a spotter, so I will have this issue when I get to bench presses.

RE: Bench press
I think I would either switch to dumbbells or use the Smith so I could max out. But I hear you. I have the same situation- I can't go much heavier with the barbell and am going to have to decide the same thing soon. I'm thinking Smith. happy
